Visakhapatnam: A gang of dacoits snatched a car after forcing four people to disembark at Ghat Road near Darakonda area in Vizag Agency on Monday.

This is the fourth such incident on the Ghat Road in the recent times.

Police said a gang of six armed dacoits stopped the vehicle by placing boulders on the road. They forced the inmates to disembark, took away Rs 32,000, and stole the car.

Victims said the dacoits were armed with sharp-edged weapons and pistols. Passengers were traveling to Vizag city with a medical emergency case in a hired vehicle.

It may be recalled that three similar offences were committed within two days on the same road last month. Police said dacoit gangs have been operating with a similar modus operandi on the Ghat Road. Initial investigation has revealed that they hail from villages in the Malkangiri district of Odisha.

In the last four cases, cash and other valuables valuing Rs one lakh were snatched. Police have formed special teams to nab the culprits. Police are also chalking out plans to patrol the Ghat road and keep dacoits at bay.
