Visakhapatnam: A 16-year-old intermediate student died by suicide after his mother refused to buy a pet dog online.

The incident took place on Monday but came to light on Tuesday. The deceased was a first-year intermediate student of a corporate college in Visakhapatnam.

According to the police, the boy came across an advertisement online for a pet dog. He wanted to buy the dog and asked his mother for Rs. 30,000. His mother, however, refused to pay and said he could get a dog later. There was also no one to look after the dog when he went to college, she said. The youngster, however, was determined to buy the dog.

The police said boy's father had died due to ill-health and his mother was taking care of the family and working in a store. In the past few days, Vamsi had become depressed after his mother had refused to buy the pet.

Inspector of Two-Town police station K. Venkata Rao said Vamsi had ended his life when his mother was out. Vamsi's cousin found his body at his residence. He tried to save him but his efforts proved futile. Vamsi was rushed to King George Hospital where he was declared dead.

The police have registered a case under Section 174 of CrPC (suspicious death) and his body was shifted to KGH mortuary for post-mortem.
