Former Mayor Sabbam Hari dies of COVID-19 in Vizag
Senior political leader and former Mayor of Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (VMC) Sabbam Hari passed away on 3 May.

He was 69. The TDP leader and former Anakapalle MP was being treated at a hospital in Vizag city for COVID-19.
On 15 April, he was admitted to a hospital in Vizag city after he tested positive for the coronavirus. Unfortunately, he did not respond to the treatment and was on a ventilator when he lost his final breath on Monday afternoon.
Sabbam Hari is survived by two daughters and a son. Hari's wife died a few years ago due to illness.
Political leaders in the region said Hari was one of the eminent Mayors of Vizag city and he was instrumental in introducing many development activities in the city, including setting up Swarnabharati Indoor stadium and installing statues of prominent personalities along the Beach Road.
Hari was one of the prominent personalities in the Vizag political scene. He was also a political analyst. He was born on 1 June 1952 at Tagarapuvalasa in Vizag city. He started his career in politics in the Congress party. He worked as Visakha Yuvajana Congress leader in 1985 and was elected the Mayor of VMC in 1995. He contested for a Parliament seat in 2009 on a Congress ticket and won from the Anakapalle constituency. Later, he joined TDP in 2019 and contested the Assembly elections from Bheemili constituency in Vizag city. He lost to YSRCP leader M. Srinivasa Rao.
TDP leaders and activists said they were deeply saddened by the demise of Sabbam Hari.
