Visakhapatnam: City Police have arrested a Class X student and his mother for stealing Rs 25 lakh from the house of his friend.

A student of a private school, the 15-year-old was addicted to online gambling and other vices. Police sources said he used to frequent his friend Rahul's house regularly at Adarsh Nagar near Old Dairy Farm.

The boy decided to steal the money from Rahul's house to meet vices. Sources said he closely observed the movement of Rahul's father. When Rahul's father kept cash in the house, he decided to lay his hand on it.

On February 8, when Rahul and his father were away from home and his mother busy with other works, the boy stole Rs 8 lakh. Similarly, on March 4 he sneaked into the house using a duplicate key and stole another Rs 17 lakh.

Based on the complaint from Rahul's father, Arilova police registered a case and began investigating. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the boy's mother purchased gold jewelry for Rs 9 lakh from the stolen money.

The boy also purchased Rs 6 lakh worth of cricket bats, bike, and other valuables. The boy was taken into custody and Rs 2 lakh cash was recovered from his home.

Police have recovered another Rs14.84 lakh cash, gold jewelry worth Rs 4 lakh and cricket bats, bike, and few other valuables.
