Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam Apartment Residents' Welfare Association has appealed to Mayor G Hari Venkata Kumari and Commissioner Dr. G Srijana to stop the public health department workers from threatening the residents for non-payment of garbage charges.
In their representation to the commissioner on Friday, the residents said GVMC volunteers were threatening the residents of Jagannadhapuram and Akkayyapalem to snap water supply if they did not make pay charges for garbage collection immediately.
The Association said garbage charges of Rs.120 was deducted from the SB account of a resident in TPT Colony without taking her consent.
In some areas, residents were threatened that the garbage would be dumped in front of their apartments if they did not make payment of the charges.
The members said they knew the user charges for garbage collection of Rs.120 from residents and other commercial charges were passed in the GVMC Council. But, when an appeal was made to Mayor, she said they are considering concession for the poor and lower-middle-class.
Members questioned what is the need for the hasty implementation of the decision when the user charges are being reviewed.
