Parawada, Visakhapatnam: Panic gripped at Parawada locality in Visakhapatnam city after a tanker lorry overturned on Monday morning and Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) gas leaked from it.
The police said that the driver of the tanker lost control over the vehicle while he was driving the tanker on Monday morning.
The tanker lorry overturned near LPG bottling company near Parawada, where several pharma companies of the Pharma city were located.
The police said that the leakage of the LPG from the tanker occurred when a team of the oil company tried to lift the overturned tanker from the location with the help of a crane. The police said that the gas was leaking from the hole in the tanker.
Based on the information, the fire and rescue service personnel rushed to the spot. The fire service personnel have been managing to avert the fire by continuously spraying water and foam on the tanker for the past one hour.
People living nearby areas were asked to evacuate following the leaking of the LPG. Safety experts from the oil company came to the spot and they are chalking out plans to plug the leakage and transfer the gas to another tanker.
The police said that two more fire tenders will be pressed into service.
