Visakhapatnam: The Chintapally sub-division of Visakhapatnam district rural police on Monday launched a free and regular bus service to the Maoist dominated area of Korukonda from Annavaram village in Chintapally mandal.

The police department took the initiative and repaired the entire road of 9 km till Rallagadda by filling all the potholes. Similarly, road repair was taken up for Cheruvuru which is also a heavily Maoist-dominated area. The repairs made way for ambulance service for the first time.

ASP Chintapally Vidhya Sagar Naidu inaugurated the bus service from Annavaram in the presence of an enthusiastic crowd. He termed the moment historic and as one of the first steps towards the development of Balapam panchayat and Korukonda area.

He also reminded that Balapam panchayat, which had not participated in elections for the last 15 years, had chosen its representative for the first time in the recently concluded panchayat elections defying the call of Maoists to boycott the elections, which indicated their desire for development.
