Visakhapatnam: On the day of his daughter's wedding, a retired Port Trust employee strangled his wife to death before ending his own life at Maddilapalem in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday.
The deceased have been identified as Jagannadha Rao (63) and his wife Vijayalakshmi (57). Police said while the daughter's wedding was going on, the couple disappeared from the function hall and reached their home.
When the relatives searched for them to perform Kanyadanam, they could not be traced. They rushed home only to see their bodies sprawled on the floor.
Police later shifted the bodies to the KGH for post mortem. A police officer said Vijayalakshmi has been suffering from mental illness for some time. She fought with her husband during the marriage function.
"After they returned home, the fighting continued and in a fit of anger, Rao strangled her to death and later hanged himself from the ceiling fan," he said.
