Two leaders, three women among six Maoists killed in Vizag Agency

Visakhapatnam: Six Maoists including three women and two divisional committee members were killed in an encounter with security forces on Wednesday morning. The exchange of fire took place near Theegalametta village under Mampa police station limits in Koyyuru Mandal in the interior parts of Vizag Agency.

The slain were identified as Ranadev alias Arjun and Sande Gangiah alias Ashok, both divisional committee members, Santu Nachika (ACM), Lalitha (PM), Paike (PM). Of the deceased, one female is yet to identify Superintendent of Police, Visakhapatnam, B Krishna Rao said the exchange of fire started in the early hours and lasted for one hour.

Police said the men from the elite anti-Naxal force, the Greyhounds and special parties were fired upon when they were combing the area. Security forces retaliated and in the ensuing gunfight, six Maoists were killed.

Police said and security forces did not suffer any casualties. Police have recovered some weapons including AK-47 and Carbine guns and .303 gun. Tapancha. Besides, Maoist literature, kit bags, explosive materials were also seized. Police said that few Maoists escaped with injuries. Police have appealed to them to surrender and assured the best possible medical treatment.

Police also appealed to other Maoists to surrender and promised that all benefits would be extended as per the existing policy.

Police have intensified the combing operations along Andhra-Odisha border. Choppers have also pressed into service as security forces suspect some top guns of the outfit in the area.
