Visakhapatnam: In view of the rising COVID-19 cases in the state and as a precautionary measure, the Vizag Bird Festival 2022 that was to be held at the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP) in Visakhapatnam has been postponed.

As part of the festival, various events such as a guided bird walk, nature journaling, and bird watching had been planned for all age groups. The zoo authorities said that so far around 100 people have registered for the events. Those who have already registered will be given priority when the event is organized in the future, they said.

The new dates for the bird festival will be announced when the pandemic situation improves.

The event was a first-of-its-kind and was supposed to be held on 22 and 23 January by the Vizag zoo in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Tirupati.

The curator of the Vizag zoo, Nandani Salaria, had earlier said that the festival was being held to create awareness about the various species of birds in Andhra Pradesh.
