Vizag city police have cracked whip against the bikers for illegally modifying silencers and horns of their bikes which cause noise pollution in the city.

Visakhapatnam: Vizag city police have cracked whip against the bikers for illegally modifying silencers and horns of their bikes which cause noise pollution in the city.
Due to the muffled thud (majestic sound), bike lovers chose the royal Enfield over other bikes. However, some riders are changing the silencers of the bikes.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Ch Adinarayana said that a total of 139 cases were registered for modifying the company fitted silencers and horns.
"Bikes with such modifications are not street legal. Section 190 (2) of the Motor Vehicle Act deals with vehicles that don't stick to the prescribed standards of road safety as well as control of noise and air pollution. We have observed that the majority of the violators are riders of the bullets," he added.
Police have registered cases against the violators under sections 279 and 336 of IPC and section 190 (2) of the MV Act and seizing the bikes and producing the list of the violators in the court. A fine ranging between Rs 5,000 and Rs10,000 may be imposed on the violators.
Traffic police say that the sound levels above 65 decibels were injurious to health. Police said sound levels above 75 decibels could cause health problems such as hypertension and anxiety.
"Apart from the violators (owners of the bikes which have modified silences and horns), we have decided to register cases against the automobile shops and mechanics for selling and fixing the modified silencers and horns to the bikes," police added.
Police said the drive will continue till the owners restore the company setting of the modified bikes
