Visakhapatnam: The special enforcement bureau (SEB) busted a hawala racket here and seized Rs. 1 crore unaccounted cash during a joint operation with the city task force on 21 December.

The officials raided a lodge near Vizag railway station on Monday and seized the cash from two persons from Hyderabad. The two were identified as Raj Purohit Bharat Kumar (30) and Chota Ram, both residents of Abids in Hyderabad.

ACP Prem Kajal said the two men were doing electrical works for a builder, Pralabh Bhai. On the latter's instructions, Bharat Kumar and Chota Ram came to Visakhapatam to collect money from Raju at Duvvada. They collected Rs. 1 crore from him and went to a lodge near the railway station to wait to board a train back to Hyderabad.

Following a tip-off, the city task force personnel and Two Town police raided the lodge and arrested the two men when they failed to provide sufficient proof for the source of the money. Two mobile phones were also seized from them.

In another incident in the same area, the police and SEB staff raided a lodge and caught two persons who were in possession of silver ornaments weighing about 29.5 kgs. They were taken into custody and produced before the mandal executive magistrate for further investigation. They were identified as Suhan Singh and Himmat Singh of Rajasthan. They worked as delivery executives for C.S Rathod, a jeweller in Vijayawada.

The SEB and CTF also arrested one person, J. Gaurav, and seized 100kgs of ganja from him. The car in which the contraband was hidden was also seized.
