Visakhapatnam: Steel Plant Parirakashana Samithi has decided to seize the administrative office of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) on Tuesday in protest against Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's remarks in the Parliament.

The minister on Monday told Parliament that the central government has decided to privatize the steel plant and the state government has no right over it.

Samithi warned to intensify the agitation if the Centre goes ahead with its proposal.

CITU state president Ch Narsinga Rao asked the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to stop making provocative statements.

Rao said it was not true that the state government had no share in the company. "however, the RINL has been giving Rs 44,000 crore as taxes and dividends. It was the state government that acquired 22,000 acres of land from the farmers. In addition, the state government has been providing infrastructural facilities like water," he said.

Narsinga Rao said all the political parties and trade unions were getting ready to intensify the agitation and teach a fitting lesson to the BJP government.

"We will invite agitating farmer leaders from Delhi to address a meeting in Visakhapatnam. Hundreds of union workers will also descend on Delhi to pressurize the government," he said.
