Visakhapatnam: Two Vizag residents displayed rare honesty when they returned gold worth Rs 27 lakh to its rightful owner.
Ambati Pola Raju, a small trader, and his brother-in-law Thanbala Srinu found a bag with gold in an APSRTC bus when they were traveling from Srikakulam to Vizag city.
Without a second thought, they visited the RTC Complex in Vizag city to find out the owner. When they could not find the owners, the duo visited PM Palem police station in Vizag city and handed over the gold to the police.
DCP (Crimes) V Suresh Babu said that P Durga Rao, a goldsmith by profession and resident of Marikavalasa in Vizag city, used to collect the gold pieces from owners of the jewelry shops at Narasannapeta and Srikakulam for making gold ornaments at Kurupam Market in Vizag city.
In the process, he collected 454 grams of gold from five jewelry shops in Narasannapeta and kept them in a bag. Later he boarded a bus to Vizag city.
Durga Rao got down at Marikavalasa forgetting the bag. He immediately alerted the police by dialing 100 and later went to PM Palem police station.
When Pola Raju and Srinu went to the police station, Durga Rao was already present there.
