Warangal: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is facing a rebellion in its ranks with a large number of aspirants bracing up to contest as independents if not given tickets for Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC).

As many as 706 sets of nominations were filed for the 66 divisions by the TRS aspirants. Two or more aspirants are competing for the TRS party ticket from each division. With so many aspirants, the TRS is yet to finalize the list of official candidates.

Leaders, who sense that they would not receive the party tickets, are making arrangements to contest as independents. This has become a cause of worry for the ruling TRS.

Several leaders including ministers Errabelli Dayakar Rao, Satyavathi Rathod, Planning Commission vice-president Boinapalli Vinod Kumar, former TRS district in-charge Gadhari Balamallu and election in-charge Bontu Rammohan are busy chalking out a strategy to deal with the crisis.

The selection process of candidates is being carried out on the basis of winning chances. MLAs Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar, Nannapuneni Narender, Aruri Ramesh, Challa Dharma Reddy, and T Rajaiah are conducting the selection of candidates.

Surveys were conducted from time to time to give a chance to those who are popular among the people. The official list should be announced by April 22, the last date for withdrawal of nominations.

Meanwhile, the aspirants are following their own strategies to pocket the TRS ticket by even making their family member file nominations wherever the reservation does not favor them.

Former corporator Kedala Padma has filed a nomination from 42nd Division and her daughter Shankesi Karunashree also filed nomination from the same division.

TRS leader Kolluri Yogananda filed his nomination from the 41st division. His wife Kolluri Swaroopa filed a nomination for the 42nd Division. In the 40th Division, Gaddam Yugender and his wife Gaddam Sravanti filed nominations.

The idea behind filing two nominations being, in case one nomination was rejected in scrutiny, another can remain in the fray.
