Revenue inspector gets two-year jail for accepting bribe in Mahaboobnagar

Hyderabad: The revenue inspector of Pebbair mandal in Mahaboobnagar district, Mohd Shafi, was sentenced to two years in jail and a fine of Rs. 1,000 imposed on him under Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, on 19 February.

The judgement was pronounced by Samba Shiva Rao Naidu, principle judge for SPE & ACB cases. In default of the payment of the fine amount, Shafi wil have to undergo imprisonment for two months. Both the sentences shall run concurrently.

On 27 June, 2011, the accused official had demanded and accepted bribe of Rs. 25,000 as a reward from the complainant, Kala Prabhakar, for an official favour to conduct an enquiry and submit a report to tahsildar regarding conversion of land. In this regard, a case was registered with the anti-corruption bureau and an investigated launched.

A chargesheet was filed before the ACB court at Nampally, Hyderabad, and a trial was also conducted by the ACB court ending in the conviction of the official.
