The incident occurred when a group of four youngsters trapped the veterinarian who was returning home after visiting a skin clinic, by offering to help her repair her scooter. They later dragged her into an open plot abutting the Shamshabad toll plaza on the national highway, forced her to consume alcohol, raped and killed her. They later dumped her body in their truck, drove till Chatanpally near Shadnagar, around 30 km from Shamshabad and set her body on fire under a culvert. Two days later, they were arrested. While in the police custody, when they were brought to Chatanpally for crime scene reconstruction, they reportedly attacked a police party and snatched their weapons. As they opened fire on the police party, an exchange of fire took place, resulting in the death of all the four accused.
After this incident, Varma met the wife of one of the accused and had then announced the making of a movie on the incident.
