Road accidents kill eight people in Nellore

Nellore: Eight persons were killed in three road accidents in Tada, Balayapalli, and Atmakur on 14 February. Four persons from Ongole in Prakasam district were killed at Pannamgadu in Tada mandal when their car hit a milk tanker. On 13 February, Panditi Yaswanth of Lawyer Peta in Ongole town went to Chennai along with his family members to see off his parents who were leaving for the US. He was accompanied by his wife Anasuya, daughters Namita and Rithika, son Riyan Cherry, and sister Vijayalakshmi.

The family was returning to Ongole when the accident took place. Their speeding car rammed into a Dodla Dairy milk tanker, which was parked by the roadside. Anasuya (27), Vijayalakshmi (37), and the one-and-a-half-year-old Riyan died on the spot. Namita (13) succumbed to her injuries while she was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Gummadipundi in Tamil Nadu. Yawanth and his daughter Rithika are in a critical condition and have been taken to Corporate Hospital in Chennai for treatment.

In another incident which occurred at Vasili in Atmakur Mandal, three women died on the spot when a speeding car hit an autorickshaw. The auto was coming from Atmakur to Vasili with 11 passengers, including G. Chinnamma (70), S.K Mastanbi (60), and N. Kotamma (65). The car dragged the auto for around 300-400 meters, killing the three women. Three others were severely injured and were taken to Nellore Government General Hospital. Others were taken to the district headquarters hospital in Atmakur. The passengers were all agriculture labourers.

In another incident, a 40-year-old auto-driver of Timmayapalli was killed when his vehicle collided with a truck at Mannuru road in Balayapalli mandal.
