Robbery case: 20-yr-old youth sentenced to 2-yr RI

Hyderabad: Twenty-year-old youth Lanka Anil Kumar, on Thursday, was sentenced to two-year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,000 was imposed on him in connection with a robbery case registered in 2018.

On October 2, 2018, a complaint was lodged at Malkajgiri police station by Abdul Rahman stating that the previous day, (October 1, 2018), around 9:30 pm, Rahman was returning home by walk from his friend’s birthday party at Lalapet, while speaking on the mobile phone.

When he reached Lalapet bridge, at 2 am, the accused S. Harshavardhan (21), a bike mechanic at Uppal and Lanka Anil Kumar of Kushaiguda, came from behind on a motorcycle, stopped him and tried to rob his mobile phone.

When Rahman resisted them, they hurled stones and dealt blows. Finally, they stole his cell phone and fled the spot.

Based on Rahman’s complaint, a case was registered at Malkajgiri police station and the accused were remanded to judicial custody. After completion of the investigation, the police filed a charge sheet in the court.

On August 26, 2020, the Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Court at Malkajgiri convicted the accused, L. Anil Kumar, and sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment.

In the past, Harshavardhan was also convicted for two years RI and a fine of Rs 2,000 was imposed on him too.
