Rohingya man held for posing as Indian, illegally obtaining Aadhaar card to avail welfare benefits

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police have arrested a 29-year-old Rohingya man for impersonating as Indian and illegally procuring voter ID card and Aadhaar card to avail benefits of government welfare schemes.
Police said the 29-year-old man had paid money to a local tout, who works at an online service outlet, and illegally obtained documents by suppressing his personal details and original nationality.
"The Rohingya man migrated to India in 2009 from Bangladesh after crossing over from Myanmar. He stayed in Jammu and Kashmir also,ā police said
Later in 2011, he shifted to Hyderabad and enrolled with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Working as a laborer, he also possessed UNHCR card.
"He claimed to be an Indian citizen. He first obtained voter card and then procured Aadhaar card and other ID proofs," police said
Police also alleged that the accused sought all government benefits meant for the poor Indians.
Police have seized voter ID and Aadhaar card besides the UNHCR card.
