Salute to real heroes: Manchu Lakshmi thanks Hyderabad police for their service during COVID crisis

Hyderabad: In a video posted on Twitter on 19 July, Telugu film actress Lakshmi Manchu thanked the Hyderabad city police for their services and hard work during the COVID-19 crisis in the state.

The video comes after 98 police officers who had tested positive for COVID-19 were discharged from hospitals and resumed their duties on Saturday. She congratulated these officers in the video and gave them a salute.

The actress, while talking to NewsMeter, said, "We know Spiderman, Superman, Batman - the superheroes in our comic books. But, for us, the real guardian angels are the Hyderabad city police. They are the heroes who prioritise their duties over their own family to safeguard the citizens."

She added, "We cannot repay their debts no matter how much we thank them. I pray that all the city police officers who have recovered get stronger and healthier than before."

Earlier on Saturday, the commissioner of police, Rachakonda, Mr Mahesh Bhagwat, had arranged a grand welcome for 31 cops who had recovered from COVID-19. They were felicitated by the police band, amidst applause from officers of the Rachakonda police Commissionerate. Each officer then shared his experiences, the process of recovery, and how they overcame the stress and stigma associated with being infected by the Coronavirus. They also talked about the doctors and their colleagues who had instilled confidence in them.
