Sania Mirza emerges victorious on comeback, son joins celebration
By Anurag Mallick Published on 14 Jan 2020 10:30 AM GMTHyderabad: India's tennis sensation and best women's player in the country, Sania Mirza made a victorious comeback to the world of tennis as she and her partner Nadiia Kichenok from Ukraine defeated the duo of Georgia's Oksana Kalashnikova and Japan's Miyu Kato by 2-6, 7-6 (7/3), 10-3 and qualified for the quarter-finals of the Hobart International on Tuesday.
Mirza who was last seen in the court back in the China Open in October 2017 suffered from a series of injuries and had taken a maternity leave in October 2018 following the birth of her son Izhaan.
Sania Mirza is also a former World No.1 in the doubles category and was the first Indian to win a WTA singles title back in 2005. She also qualified till the 4th round of the US Open in the same year and broke among the Women's top 30.
After her first win post her comeback on the field, Sania took to Twitter and posted an adorable picture of her son Izhaan alongside her picture while playing.
She wrote - " Today was one of the most special days of my life to have my parents and my little baby boy with me in my first match after so long..and we won our first round.feel very grateful for the love I am receiving.. BELIEF!! Takes you places. YES my baby boy, we did it. "
Sania's next big assignment after the Hobart International is the Australian Open as she is set to partner with American Rajeev Ram in the mixed doubles category next week.
Even her fans couldn't keep calm as they commented on her post. Filmmaker BVS Ravi wrote - " Your each win is a victory to a million women who's inspired by your life. "
Another user wrote - "It's always a delight to see you on court. Well done and keep it up. Remain a role model for all aspiring tennis players specially Indian girls."
