Hyderabad: Soon, attendants and relatives who accompany patients to city hospitals can have meals for Rs. 5. This facility will be available in 18 government hospitals in Hyderabad, announced Telangana health minister T. Harish Rao on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the Telangana health department and the Hari Krishna Movement.
As part of this scheme, the state government will spend Rs. 38.66 crore annually to provide meals for Rs. 5. "From now, three good quality nutritious meals will be provided to all family members and assistants of patients receiving treatment in hospitals," Mr. Rao said. He added that this initiative is similar to the GHMC's Annapurna Centre initiative.
"Many patients at government hospitals stay for days. Nutritious food will be provided to everyone daily. Around 20,000 people will be catered to," he said.
Various items like lemon rice, vegetable pulao, sambar, pickles, curd, and more will be served on disposable plates. "All necessary facilities will be set up in the next 10 days and the service will be launched soon," the minister said.
