Covaxin gets govt nod for emergency use on 12-18 age group

Hyderabad: India's indigenous vaccine, 'Covaxin', developed by Bharat Biotech (BB), has received government approval for emergency use for children aged between 12 and 18 years.

Covaxin is formulated uniquely such that the same dosage can be administered to adults and children, Hyderabad vaccine maker said in a statement here on Saturday.

The vaccine has established a proven record for safety and efficacy in adults for the original variant and subsequent variants.

"We have documented excellent safety and immunogenicity data readouts in children, it said. We look forward to Covaxin providing similar levels of protection for adults and children alike. Bharat Biotech thanks Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his visionary leadership during this pandemic. Bharat Biotech is also thankful to the Ministry of Health and Family welfare, DCGI and NTAGI for their diligent review of all data and for their fastidious approval process," the statement added.
