Covid-19: Medchal-Malkajgiri records highest weekly positivity rate at 6.95%; Warangal lowest at 0.32%

By Sumit Jha Published on 18 Jan 2022 5:44 AM GMTHyderabad: Medchal Malakjgiri district in Telangana recorded the highest weekly test positivity rate (TPR). According to the state health department data, between January 6 and January 12, the TPR in Medchal Malkajgiri was 6.95%.
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation area reported the second-highest TPR of 5.65% followed by Rangareddy district with 4.92%. The state government has targeted 12,300 tests per day for Hyderabad, 3350 tests for Medchal Malkajgiri, and 3150 for Rangareddy.
The state average TPR stands at 3%. Few of the rural districts have also reported TPR more than the states average. Nizamabad has reported 4.81% while Kamareddy has reported 4.51 %, Sangareddy has reported 4.21 % and Medak has reported 4.02%.
The lowest TPR was recorded in Warangal rural (0.32%) and Adilabad district (0.33%). Between December 30, 2021, and January 5, 2022, the average TPR in the states was 1.7%. Medchal Malkajgiri however reported 4.66%.
On 17 January, the state recorded a TPR of 3.05%.
Hyderabad, Rangareddy, and Medchal Malakjgiri reported around 63% cases in the state on Monday. However, the rural districts which were reporting cases in single digit in the last few months, have also seen an increase in COVID19 cases in the last one week. On January 11, out of 33 districts, nine districts have reported cases in single digit. On January 17, Jayashankar Bhupalapally has reported only 8 cases
According to health officials, restrictions will be considered only when the positivity rate is more than 10% and hospitalization is over 40%. As per the government, only 3.5 percent of oxygen and ICU beds are filed in the state.
Meanwhile, Telangana reported 2,447 new COVID-19 cases on January 17, pushing the cumulative caseload to 7,11,656. Three COVID-19 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours in the state. On Sunday, the state had reported 2,047 cases. The number of active cases in the state currently stands at 22,197.
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) reported the highest number of cases (1,112) followed by Medchal-Malkajgiri (235), Rangareddy (183), and Hanumakonda (80).
A total of 2,295 people recovered from Coronavirus statewide taking the overall recoveries so far to 6,85,399. The state's recovery rate stands at 96.31%.
As many as 80,138 samples were tested in the state during the past 24 hours. Of which the results of 10,732 swab samples are awaited. A total of 3,07,09,658 COVID-19 tests have been carried out in the state since the outbreak of the pandemic.
A total of 2,68,897 doses of the COVID-19 vaccines were administered on Monday. Around 69,900 received the first dose, 1,80,065 were administered the second jab. Around 18,932 booster doses were also administered.
