Bengaluru: A 10-year-old boy from Anantapur, who suffered severe injuries in a road accident, received life-saving treatment following a complex surgical procedure that addressed critical damage to his intestines.

The young patient, referred to as Mohan (name changed), faced a life-threatening situation after sustaining injuries that caused multiple holes in his intestines, necessitating urgent medical intervention.

Critical Injuries and Urgent Response

Mohan's ordeal began a month ago when he was struck by a vehicle in Anantapur.

Initially treated at a local hospital, he was discharged despite persistent symptoms, including severe abdominal pain and repeated vomiting.

Concerned about his worsening condition, his family sought further evaluation, leading them to go to Fortis Hospital Bannerghatta Road, a specialized hospital in Bengaluru.

Upon arrival, a comprehensive assessment revealed significant intestinal damage.

Dr. Sreedhara Murthy, a Consultant in Paediatric Surgery, explained, "During the surgery, we found scar tissue, known as adhesions, that had formed due to the serious road accident. These adhesions were causing a blockage in his small intestine, leading to severe pain and constant vomiting."

Surgical Intervention and Recovery

The surgical team discovered that Mohan's small intestine had multiple holes, which required the removal of the damaged section.

Dr. Murthy detailed the procedure: "This complex abdominal surgery involved surgical anastomosis, the joining of two body structures that are not currently connected, to restore the patientā€™s normal digestion and ease his abdominal pain. The patient tolerated the procedure well and recovered without any complications."

Dr. Yogesh Kumar Gupta, Consultant Paediatrician, and Intensivist, highlighted the patient's progress: "Watching Mohan's progress from his critical condition to full recovery has been incredible. Early intervention, careful monitoring, and thorough post-surgery care were crucial in his remarkable improvement."

A Remarkable Recovery

Mohan's recovery has been described as remarkable, with a swift discharge from the hospital within a week.

Akshay Oleti, Business Head at the hospital, expressed his satisfaction with the outcome: "Seeing the young boy recover so well has brought us immense happiness. Our team of pediatricians and surgeons demonstrated their expertise and implemented timely interventions to ensure his successful recovery. It's truly gratifying to witness such positive outcomes, knowing that our efforts have made a meaningful difference in his life."
