Hyderabad: Doctors at Hyderabad's Arete Hospitals performed an 11-hour-long surgical procedure on a 12-year-old scoliosis patient and successfully restored her health and body functions.

The severity of her scoliosis had compressed vital organs, leading to further complications. Under Dr. Venkata Ramakrishna T's guidance and with the expertise of a multidisciplinary team, including neurosurgeons, anesthesiologists, and other specialists, an 11-hour surgical procedure was conducted successfully.

Scoliosis, a curvature of the spine affecting approximately 7-10% of the population in India, presents significant challenges, especially among children, impacting daily activities like walking and lifting. Recent advancements in spine surgery have offered hope for many, yet complex cases continue to pose challenges.

The 12-year-old girl with severe scoliosis and Neurofibromatosis Type I presented a unique challenge. Her condition had deteriorated, affecting her breathing and eating, and hindering her day-to-day tasks.
