Hyderabad: Doctors at Durgabai Deshmukh Renova Cancer Centre (DDRCC), Vidyanagar performed a rare Maxillary Sinus Carcinoma surgery on a 58-year-old man.
The person suffered from facial swelling, a large lump of 10 cm on the right jaw, watery eyes, and difficulty in swallowing for the last one year. This is a rare cancer found only in a few individuals. Hailing from Nizamabad the patient went around hospitals in Hyderabad but as it requires a maxillofacial surgery these experts need to be present during the surgery.
Advanced stage of the disease
For the last year, the patient has been suffering as cancer cells have spread over the face. The disease was at an advanced stage involving the eyes, jaws, and throat. The family also faced the daunting prospect of an expensive treatment as it involved surgeons of various specialties.
Challenging surgery

Long procedure
The procedure lasted for 10 to 12 hours as there was also a requirement for plastic surgery after the removal of the cancer cells from the facial and throat region.
Recovery within a week
The patient recovered within a week due to the comprehensive post-operative care and also the immunity of the patient. Despite the long hours of surgery, the medicines were effective and stabilization of the patient was quick.
