Hyderabad: Hyderabad-based Star Cancer Centre has won two awards at the fifth Cancer Summit organized by the Integrated Health and Well-being (IHW) Council in New Delhi.

The hospital has won the award for its cancer prevention and awareness initiative as well as innovation in screening techniques.

The awards were given for ‘Excellence in Cancer Prevention and Awareness Initiative / Programme’ (Awareness and Education category) and ‘Innovation in Cancer Screening Technique’ (Diagnosis and Screening category).

‘Excellence in Cancer Prevention and Awareness Initiative or Programme,’ under the Awareness and Education category, was awarded to Star Cancer Centre for its efforts in screening over 3,000 individuals in the remote areas of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh within three months. This initiative not only screened individuals but also raised awareness regarding cancer and the importance of early screening.

‘Innovation in Cancer Screening Technique,’ within the Diagnosis and Screening category, recognised the project titled, ‘The Star Multi-disciplinary Tumour Board.’ This initiative, devised by the experts at the Centre, adopts a patient-centric approach to the diagnosis of cancer, providing strategic support that prioritizes the needs of both patients and their families in the decision-making process, which in turn improves patient outcomes with advanced healthcare.

Dr Vipin Goel, ClinicalDdirector and Head of the Department of Surgical Oncology, Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgeon at Star Cancer Centre, Star Hospitals Hyderabad gave the credit to the team’s commitment to the cause of fighting cancer relentlessly.

IHW Council is concerned over the rising incidence of various cancers globally, which has led to an increase in fatality rates. The cancer summit served as a vital platform for healthcare professionals, researchers, and experts to convene, exchange ideas, and devise innovative strategies to address the evolving challenges posed by cancer incidence and mortality rates.
