Hyderabad: TMCEWU calls for ‘Chalo DME’ on July 3 against non-payment of full remuneration

Hyderabad: Telangana Medical Contract Employees and Workers Union (TMCEWU) has called for a ‘Chalo DME’ protest on July 3 against non-payment of their full remuneration.

Representing workers involved in sanitation, bedside patient care, and security at government hospitals, over 2,000 members will participate in a ‘Chalo DME’ protest.

During a meeting on Sunday, members of the union discussed strategies for their protest. According to current agreements, each contract employee in a government hospital should receive a monthly salary of Rs 15,600. However, after deducting the Provident Fund (PF) component, the monthly take-home pay should be Rs 13,600.

“They are paid only Rs 11,000. In some government hospitals, they are paid even Rs 10,000. It is clear that the hospital management and third-party agencies are colluding and paying less to the contract employees,” said M. Narasimha, President of the Telangana Medical Contracts Employees and Workers Union.

In addition to salary issues, contract workers are also being denied their entitled leaves. According to labor laws, contract employees should receive at least four festival holidays, four national holidays, and 16 earned leaves.

Narasimha emphasized, “These rules are seldom implemented. To bring these issues to the attention of authorities, a Chalo DME and protest meeting will be held.”

The protest aims to address these discrepancies and ensure fair treatment for all contract employees in Telangana’s government hospitals.
