Keesara man develops a rare post-Covid respiratory complication

Hyderabad, November 16th, 2021: After recovering from Covid-19, K Gopal, a resident of Keesara developed a peculiar condition of a wheezing sound each time he breathed. On further investigation, he was diagnosed with tracheal stenosis which obstructed his airways.

Gopal was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the hospital a few months back for a high coronavirus infection, which made it difficult for him to even breathe. He was put under care for six days.

Three months after getting discharged from the hospital, Gopal developed a peculiar condition and was getting a wheezing sound each time he breathed, especially while in sleep.

Generally, this happens when the airways in the human body are tightened, blocked, or inflamed, making a person's breathing sound like whistling or squeaking. This condition is usually caused due to cold, asthma, allergies, or more serious conditions, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Commenting on the condition and treatment administered, Dr. Tapaswi Krishna, Consultant Pulmonologist at the hospital said, "This patient, as an after-effect of Covid-19 infection developed obstruction to his airways and developed a wheezing sound each time he breathed. Further investigations revealed he had tracheal stenosis, which required dilatation of the respiratory trachea. To ensure proper cure permanently, stenting was done in the region of blockage, which was possibly a permanent solution to the problem. The patient was discharged from the hospital the very next day of the treatment and is now leading a normal life without any complication."

Recent trends reveal that many patients who required general hospitalization or advanced treatment in an ICU due to coronavirus infection are developing certain health complications subsequently. These range from an increase in blood pressure and diabetes levels, to such obstructions in the respiratory trachea. Some face even more serious difficulties like heart problems.

Therefore, experts suggest that people who have had Covid-19 infection must ensure that they stay extra cautious about their health and seek the right medical advice for any noticeable changes in the body before things go out of control.
