Hyderabad: For the first time in Andhra Pradesh, a pioneering procedure using the WEB (Woven Endo Bridge) device was executed to treat a 55-year-old woman suffering from a brain haemorrhage caused by a ruptured blood vessel.
The minimally invasive procedure successfully sealed the ruptured vessel, stopped the bleeding and restored normal blood flow, offering the patient significant relief and a quick recovery.
A critical blood vessel in the brain was severely swollen
Dr Kasireddy Ashok Reddy, a consultant interventional radiologist, detailed the patientās condition: āA 55-year-old homemaker from Kurnool arrived at our hospital with severe headaches. Upon conducting necessary tests, we diagnosed a complex condition where a critical blood vessel in the brain, the anterior communicating artery, was severely swollen and had ruptured. Traditional treatments like surgical clipping or coiling were not ideal for this case due to the extensive rupture. Hence, we decided to employ the WEB device, marking its first use in the State.ā
How does the advanced treatment procedure with WEB work?
The procedure involved inserting the WEB device through a small opening to seal the ruptured blood vessel.
Dr Ashok Reddy emphasised the advantages of the technique: āThis advanced approach significantly reduces risks, requires less time and ensures faster recovery. In this case, the patient was fortunate to reach us before slipping into a coma, which is a common outcome in such situations. She showed remarkable progress and was able to walk within two days of the procedure.ā
Pioneering technology at Kurnool KIMS
Kurnool KIMS Hospital is one of the few centres in India equipped to perform such advanced procedures.
Dr Ashok Reddy expressed pride in bringing this technology to the region: āWe are delighted to bring world-class medical expertise and advanced technologies to the state, especially to the people of Rayalaseema. Kurnool KIMS Hospital is equipped with the latest infrastructure and skilled specialists, enabling us to tackle even the most complex brain treatments.ā
