Men’s wellness in focus: AINU Banjara Hills launches program to address growing infertility cases

Hyderabad: Ahead of International Men’s Day on November 19, the Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology (AINU) has launched a comprehensive Men’s Wellness Program at its Banjara Hills centre.

The initiative aims to address the growing concern of male infertility and sexual health issues, which are increasingly being reported across Telangana.

Rising male infertility in Telangana

Doctors at AINU highlighted that Hyderabad is witnessing a significant rise in male infertility cases. Male factor infertility accounts for 30 to 50 per cent of all infertility instances, either independently or alongside female factors.

According to AINU specialists, there has been an estimated 15–20 per cent increase in infertility cases in the Telangana region in recent years.

This trend, they note, is largely driven by stressful lifestyles, obesity, inadequate sleep and environmental factors that affect sperm quality and hormonal balance.

“Men often neglect their health due to busy schedules and social stigma around discussing personal health issues,” said Dr Purna Chandra Reddy, Executive Director and Chief Consultant Urologist, AINU Banjara Hills. “Through this wellness initiative, AINU aims to spread awareness about preventive care and empower men to take proactive steps towards maintaining their overall health and vitality.”

Comprehensive screening and early detection

The Men’s Wellness Program includes a detailed medical evaluation focusing on reproductive and sexual health. The package covers:

• Consultation with an Andrologist

• Hormone profiling, including Testosterone levels

• Prostate screening and ultrasound (Scrotal)

• Metabolic assessments such as HBA1C, Lipid Profile and Thyroid (TSH)

• Semen analysis to assess fertility potential

• Lifestyle and dietary assessments

The program encourages men to undergo early screening and seek medical guidance before health issues become chronic or severe.

“Men’s health is often overlooked until problems arise,” said Dr Suraj Pinni, Consultant Urologist and Andrologist, AINU. “Through this wellness package, we aim to encourage men to proactively address fertility and sexual health concerns with confidence and scientific support. Early evaluation and lifestyle modification can make a significant difference in overall well-being.”

Addressing stigma and encouraging open dialogue

AINU doctors emphasised that one of the major challenges in tackling male infertility and sexual dysfunction is the silence and stigma surrounding these conditions. The wellness program is designed to create a more open and supportive environment where men can discuss personal health issues without hesitation.

“Through this initiative, we want men to feel comfortable seeking help and discussing sensitive issues,” added Dr Reddy. “Ignoring these symptoms or delaying medical evaluation often leads to more complex problems later.”

Advanced andrology and sexual health services

AINU’s Centre for Men’s Health and Andrology offers advanced and confidential treatments for male sexual dysfunction and infertility. The centre’s team of andrologists provides customised care for conditions such as erectile dysfunction, varicocele, and prostate-related issues.

Treatments offered include:

• Low-intensity extracorporeal shock wave therapy for erectile dysfunction

• Intra-cavernosal injections

• Intra-operative Doppler for varicocele surgery

• Ejaculation-preserving therapies, including water vapour therapy and prostatic urethral lift for men with prostate problems

These facilities are part of AINU’s broader mission to integrate preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic care for men under one program.
