Hyderabad: The 9th annual conference of the Indian Association of Pediatric Surgeons focused on the transformative role of cutting-edge technology in pediatric care, particularly in treating severe neonatal conditions.

Held over two days at KIMS Cuddles Hospital in Secunderabad, the event brought together around 125 pediatric surgeons from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Emphasising minimally invasive surgeries

The conference highlighted the significance of minimally invasive (keyhole) surgeries and robotic surgical techniques in pediatric care.

Senior medical experts discussed how these advancements have improved surgical outcomes, particularly in neonates, whose delicate internal organs require utmost care during interventions.

Dr TV Madhusudana Murthy, chief patron of the event, emphasised the need for precision in treating newborns: ā€œNewborns are incredibly delicate, with their internal organs still developing. Some cases involve severe congenital anomalies that require utmost care and precision during surgical intervention. Pediatric surgeons must be highly skilled and vigilant in performing these procedures.ā€

Cutting-edge technology in neonatal care

The use of advanced technology in neonatal care, including robotic surgeries, was a central theme of the discussions. The event featured live video demonstrations of these modern procedures, showcasing their effectiveness in treating complex pediatric conditions.

Dr Harish Jayaram, chairman of the conference, spoke about the importance of staying updated with the latest innovations in pediatric surgery.

ā€œConferences like these offer a valuable opportunity to acquire new skills and stay updated with the latest innovations. Pediatric surgeries, especially laparoscopic and robotic procedures, have transformed outcomes for young patients,ā€ he said.

Super-specialisation in pediatric surgery

The conference also emphasised the importance of super-specialisation in reducing errors in pediatric surgery. Discussions centred on organ preservation, particularly in kidney-related surgeries, and how advancements in pediatric urology are crucial for improving patient outcomes.

Dr KT Mandakini, organising secretary, stressed the role of super-specialisation: ā€œSpecialized care, especially in areas like pediatric urology and kidney surgeries, helps reduce the margin of error, ensuring better outcomes for patients.ā€

Dr M. Yoga Nagender, co-organising secretary, mentioned the hospitalā€™s role in adopting these innovations: ā€œAt KIMS Cuddles, we now offer advanced pediatric robotic surgeries, which ensure precision and faster recovery.ā€

The participating experts encouraged medical professionals to embrace these advancements to enhance patient care and improve surgical outcomes in pediatric practices.
