Summer is considered a season of renewal and rejuvenation for reproductive health.
As the season naturally corresponds with the bodyās needs, men are advised to take proactive measures to improve their reproductive wellness, from boosting testosterone levels to promoting healthier habits.
Summer, being the month for relaxation and rejuvenation, engaging in physical activity like walking, swimming, or other outdoor sports boosts sperm quality and hormone regulation, as per experts.
Detox and boost circulation
Such activities can help in enhancing the detoxification effects and boost circulation, along with reducing stress levels.
āThis can help in reducing weight gain and boosting fertility levels via sweating. With increased sun exposure, one can boost serotonin levels, thereby lowering stress and anxiety levels. Hence, good mental health enables the reproductive system to function more effectivelyā, said Dr. Prasanta Kumar Nayak, Clinical Head & Fertility Specialist at Oasis Fertility.
Consume fruits and vegetables
Seasonal fruits and vegetables, especially the ones rich in antioxidants, contribute to better sperm motility and morphology. In addition, hydration which is essential in the summer helps to maintain the ideal volume and quality of semen.
Dr. Prasanta Kumar Nayak said, āThe production of testosterone and overall sperm health depend heavily on vitamin D, commonly referred to as the Sunshine Vitamin. Fertility outcomes are better for men with adequate vitamin D levels than for those with insufficient levelsā.
Season suitable for treatments
The summer season is considered suitable for men to begin or continue fertility treatments such as Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), Microscopic Testicular Sperm Extraction (Micro TESE), DNA Fragmentation Index (DFI) Testing, and others.
Dr Prasanta Kumar Nayak emphasised the importance of being in a better mental health condition, more motivation, a supportive setting, and less stress during the season, which can help reduce the emotional strain that is often associated with fertility treatments.
āImproved sperm parameters due to better lifestyle choices also increase the chances of successful assisted reproductive procedures. Additionally, good work-life balance and scheduling flexibility are generally easier to manage clinical reports that couples are more willing to pursue treatment plans during the summerā, he said.
Summer offers a natural balance of mental, physical, and reproductive wellness. Infertility experts suggest that men can actively improve their fertility and general well-being by embracing the positive changes that the season offers, such as nutrient-rich diets and mental clarity.
