Telangana doctors demand TVVP administration overhaul, give ultimatum to govt
Hyderabad: The Telangana Government Doctors Association (TGGDA) have issued an ultimatum to the State government, demanding the immediate introduction of a bill in the State Assembly to overhaul the administrative structure of the Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (TVVP).
The association argues that the current ‘corporation system’ under which TVVP operates is the primary cause of chronic salary delays, leaving hundreds of frontline medical professionals in financial distress.
Many TVVP doctors are yet to receive salaries
Despite the change in governance, TGGDA leadership expressed deep disappointment, noting that the high hopes doctors held for the new Congress administration have been met with ‘administrative failure.’
According to the association, while it is already December 25, a significant number of TVVP doctors have yet to receive their salaries.
“Doctors believed that the long-awaited reforms of the past two years would finally materialise,” the TGGDA general secretary, Dr Lalu Prasad, said. “Instead, the situation has worsened, causing severe financial hardship and mental stress to those serving the public,” explained Dr MK Rauf, treasurer of the association.
Proposed integration into DSHS
The TGGDA maintains that piecemeal fixes are no longer sufficient. They have proposed a fundamental structural shift:
1. Abolish the Corporation System: Transitioning TVVP away from its current autonomous corporation status.
2. Integration with DSHS: Bringing all TVVP services under the Directorate of Secondary Health Services (DSHS).
3. Statutory Framework: Introducing a formal Bill in the Assembly to provide a permanent legal basis for this transition.
The association believes this move is the only way to ensure doctors are paid on the first of every month, aligned with other government departments.
Demand for immediate action
President Dr Naraharu Bapanpally said, “The government must act as this set of doctors work in the peripheral areas. The negligent attitude of the government is pushing the medical community to take this action. The association is calling on the government to act responsibly and prioritise the legislative changes during the current or upcoming Assembly sessions to prevent thousands of doctors from falling further into uncertainty.”
With the winter session of the Assembly, doctors demand that the issue be taken up and sorted out by the government soon.
