Telangana govt docs protest action against senior doctor in Jagtial for ‘negligence’
TTGDA noted that this was not an isolated incident and pointed to similar controversies in other districts.
By Newsmeter Network Published on 21 Dec 2024 6:49 PM ISTJagtial: The Telangana Teaching Government Doctors Association (TTGDA) has issued a statement condemning the action taken against Dr Ramulu, a senior doctor, by the district administration of Jagtial.
Recently, district collector B Satya Prasad issued orders surrendering Jagtial Government General Hospital superintendent Dr L Ramulu to the Director of Medical Education (DME) for ‘neglecting duties’.
The association has called the move “baseless and outrageous,” claiming it undermines the contributions of senior medical professionals.
‘System Humiliating Talent’
In its statement, TTGDA clarified that Dr Ramulu was not managing his position by choice but was managing responsibilities in the absence of the additional DME.
“The doctor in question did not assume the position by choice. In the absence of the additional DME taking charge on time, they handled their responsibilities smoothly and efficiently for many years without adding any burden to the government. It is deeply troubling that instead of encouraging such talent, the system has chosen to humiliate it,” the statement read.
Recurring Issues in District Administration
TTGDA noted that this was not an isolated incident and pointed to similar controversies in other districts.
- The association highlighted the case of the superintendent of Kothagudem, who faced administrative action that ultimately led to his death.
- Another example included the treatment of senior doctors in Narsampet, which previously stirred outrage within the medical community.
“The way some district administrators are managing medical college responsibilities—institutions that the government holds in high regard—is highly disappointing,” TTGDA remarked.
Impact on Morale and the System
The association criticized the approach of holding individuals personally accountable for decisions made in their official capacities.
“Decisions taken by individuals in their official capacities should be seen as institutional decisions. Holding them personally accountable in such a manner is detrimental to the system and morale,” the statement emphasized.
Black Badge Protest
In response to the incident, TTGDA has urged all teaching doctors across the State’s 34 government medical colleges to participate in a black badge protest while continuing their duties.
“This is a mark of solidarity with our fellow doctors facing such injustices,” the association stated.
The situation has raised questions about the treatment of senior doctors and the role of district administrations in managing medical institutions. TTGDA has urged the government to take steps to prevent such incidents in the future.
