A vicious attack on Dr Shravan by a mob at Korutla Area Hospital further fuelled the outrage among medical professionals

The protests were ignited by the suspension of Dr Shravan Kumar following allegations of medical negligence which allegedly led to the death of an auto driver, Nazibar Rahaman.
Additionally, a vicious attack on Dr Shravan by a mob at Korutla Area Hospital further fuelled the outrage among medical professionals.
Why was Dr Shravan suspended?
The death of Nazibar Rahaman, who suffered a severe sunstroke and passed away shortly after admission to the hospital, prompted the suspension.
Dr J Ajaya Kumar, the commissioner of Telangana Vaidya Vidhan Parishad (TVVP), issued orders suspending Dr Shravan Kumar of Area Hospital, Korutla in Jagtial district, in response to the allegations of medical negligence.
The Telangana Teaching Government Doctors Association (TTGDA) swiftly condemned the suspension, citing a lack of proper inquiry into the incident. They announced plans to organise protests against what they called 'unjust actions.'
Protests across districts
Meanwhile, the Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA) denounced the violent attack on Dr Shravan Kumar. The attack, allegedly perpetrated by a mob, aimed to harm the doctor by throwing petrol, highlighting the growing instances of violence against healthcare workers.
In response to the suspension and the violent attack, medical professionals united in solidarity. Doctors across government and private hospitals planned to wear black badges in protest of Dr Shravan Kumar’s suspension. Additionally, TTGDA Ramagundam conducted a protest at GGH Ramagundam, garnering support from faculty and staff nurses.
TGGDA emphasised the urgent need for justice and urged concerted efforts to ensure the safety of doctors and medical staff across the region.
“In the face of these challenges, the healthcare community remains steadfast in our commitment to serving the public, while advocating for our own safety and security,” read a statement from TGGDA, underscoring the determination of medical professionals to seek justice and ensure the protection of their colleagues.
As investigations into the alleged medical negligence and the violent attack unfold, there is a growing consensus on the necessity of implementing stringent measures to safeguard the lives of healthcare workers.
