Hyderabad: India’s first specialized podiatry hospital has been launched in Hyderabad.
A collaboration between KIMS Hospitals and Dr. Narendranadh Meda, senior consultant vascular & endovascular surgeon, `The Foot Doctor’ aims to revolutionize foot care with advanced facilities and a holistic approach.
Diabetic Foot Disease (DFD) is emerging as a critical health challenge in India, contributing to over one lakh amputations annually. Globally, a limb is lost to diabetes every 18 seconds, with untreated diabetic foot ulcers being the leading cause in 85% of cases. Despite its severity, delayed diagnosis and lack of specialized care often lead to devastating outcomes.
Specialized Care to Reduce Amputations
KIMS Hospitals CMD Dr. Bhaskar Rao highlighted the urgency of addressing DFD. “Every 18 seconds, a limb is lost globally due to diabetes. The Foot Doctor aims to reduce this staggering statistic by offering holistic, preventive, and advanced treatment options,” he said.
Dr. Meda echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the lack of awareness around foot care. “India faces a dire need for specialized podiatric care. The Foot Doctor is here to change that narrative by prioritizing early diagnosis, advanced treatments, and preventive care,” he stated.
Advanced Facilities for Comprehensive Treatment
The Foot Doctor integrates cutting-edge technology and innovative treatment options, including:
• Asia’s First Extremity MRI with AI Integration: Ensures accurate diagnosis of foot and ankle conditions.
• Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT): A vital tool for tissue healing and preventing amputations in chronic wound cases.
• Advanced Gait Analysis: Helps identify biomechanical abnormalities, guiding corrective measures to improve mobility.
• Custom Orthotics: 3D scanning and pressure mapping create tailored solutions for pain relief and stability.
Beyond Diabetes: Broad Scope of Services
While the hospital primarily focuses on diabetic foot care, it also treats other conditions such as flat feet, plantar fasciitis, heel pain, and Achilles tendinitis. Dr. Meda explained, “These issues, often dismissed as minor, can severely impact mobility and quality of life if left untreated.”
Promoting Awareness Through Outreach
In addition to treatment, The Foot Doctor is dedicated to raising awareness about foot health through wellness camps and free screenings. Dr. Meda noted, “Our goal is to prevent complications by fostering a culture of early intervention and regular screenings.”
A Step Forward in Indian Healthcare
The Foot Doctor represents a significant leap in Indian healthcare by addressing diabetic foot complications and promoting overall foot health. “This initiative has the potential to enhance the quality of life for millions,” said Dr. Rao.
With its state-of-the-art facilities and community-centric approach, The Foot Doctor is set to transform the landscape of podiatric care in India.
