Sexual harassment by father-in-law, woman commits suicide in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A 25-year-old engineering graduate committed suicide after she was allegedly sexually harassed by her father-in-law at Basheerbagh in Hyderabad on Thursday.
The victim allegedly committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling at her parents’ home. Police sources said the victim's father-in-law K Venkatesh, who runs a furniture business, had allegedly been sexually harassing her for some time.
According to sources, the victim was married to Venkatesh’s son, who works in a private company at Attapur. The couple has a seven-month-old daughter. As her husband would go to work, her father in law used to harass her sexually.
Sources said he would demand sexual favours and threatened to malign her character if she discloses it to anyone.
However, she informed her parents and the matter was taken up with the community elders. Later Venkatesh apologized and promised not to trouble his daughter in law anymore. Accordingly, she agreed and returned home.
A few days later, he again started harassing her. Fed up of harassment, she went to her parents' home on Wednesday.
On Thursday afternoon, she called her husband and asked him to come home immediately as their daughter was not keeping well.
By the time he reached home, he was informed that his wife has committed suicide. Based on a complaint from her parents, police registered a case against Venkatesh and started the investigation.
