Hyderabad: Celebrity columnist Shobha De is in the news again for all the wrong reasons. She mistook Tollywood star Chiranjeevi for Kannada actor Chiranjeevi Sarja, who breathed his last on Sunday.
She posted a picture of Konidela Chiranjeevi and expressed her condolences to Kannada actor's family. This rubbed the Tollywood lovers the wrong way. Netizens expressed their exasperation over her ignorance.
Tollywood PR Vamsi Kaka too voiced his anger and urged Bollywood celebrities to do basic Google search before posting about south stars.
Dear Bollywood Celebrities/WHATEVER, if you don't know our actors, then please don't tweet. Simple!!!!!!!— Vamsi Kaka (@vamsikaka) June 7, 2020
A simple Google search goes a long way in covering your stupidity.
This is not for the first time that Bollywood celebs have goofed up. This often sparks debate on how the stars and people up north are ignorant about the people, languages down south. Not just on twitter but also the stereotypes on south Indians, calling them Madrasis in movies have triggered controversies.
After people called her out for ignorance, Shobha deleted the tweet but not before its screenshot went viral. Tollywood fans apart, a lot of moviegoers from across the country are asking Shobha to apologize.
A few Twitteratis are tagging Chiranjeevi, asking him to take up the issue with her. Well, we now have to see if Chiranjeevi will reply to his fans by tweeting about it or brush it off as an honest mistake.
