Six from Hyderabad drown as car plunges into Nagarajun Sagar canal

Hyderabad: As many as six persons from Hyderabad drowned, as their car plunged into the left canal of Nagarjun Sagar project in Suryapet district, late on Friday night. The drowned persons are identified as Abdul, Rajesh, Johnson, Santosh Kumar, Pavan and Naresh Kumar. They were returning to the city after attending a friend's wedding at Chakirala in the district.

According to sources, the victims, all belonging to different parts of Hyderabad, are working for a private hospital at ECIL. One of their friends, Vimalakonda Mahesh, got married on Friday in his village Chakirala of Nadigudem mandal in Kodad assembly constituency.

The victims had hired a vehicle to attend the wedding. After the wedding they were returning to the city. A few minutes after they began their return journey, their vehicle went out of control and plunged into the canal. Passers-by noticed this and alerted the police.

Kodad MLA Bollam Mallaiah along with local administration and police rushed to the spot. They have begun rescue operations. The strong water currents in the canal and night conditions are not helping with the rescue operations
