Six killed as alcohol-related crimes surge in Andhra
By Newsmeter Network Published on 6 May 2020 3:39 AM GMTVijayawada: A day after the government allowed liquor vends to open, six people were killed and two others suffered injuries in different alcohol-related crimes across Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday
A 40-year-old migrant worker was killed and another injured in a drunken brawl at Isukathota area on Tuesday. The slain has been identified as D Nayak. The injured has been identified as M Girish. The duo was working in a fast-food center in the city.
In a separate incident, 46-year-old woman P Jagadamba and her 20-year-old daughter P Nandini committed suicide after a heated argument with her tipsy husband at Palamner in Chittoor district on Monday.
Police said that Jagadamba was upset after her husband came back drunk.
A 45-year-old inebriated biker was killed after he met with an accident near Mylavaram in Krishna district. In another incident, 28-year-old motorist T Yadadri died after hitting a road-side tree near Guduru. He was driving in an inebriated state.
After his wife objected to consuming liquor, a 40-year-old man committed suicide at his residence at Gokarampalle in Chittoor district. He was identified as KM Gajendra.
Leaders and activists of various womenās organizations on Tuesday staged a protest demanding the closure of all liquor outlets during the lockdown period. K Padma, an activist, said domestic violence and other crimes will increase.
There was chaos on the streets in various parts of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday as tipplers thronged the liquor shops. Long queues were seen outside the liquor shops as booze lovers flouted the social distancing norms.
