Six member gang arrested in Vizag for killing cats and selling meat

Visakhapatnam: Meat lovers in Vizag are warned to be cautious of non-veg dishes being served in small restaurants and road-side eateries. Police busted a six-member gang, for killing cats and selling the meat to their customers.

Based on information from members of the Visakha Society for Protection and Care of Animals, a six-member gang from Chinarajupalem area in Guntur district on the guise of devotees travelling in a vehicle by displaying a God's image on the vehicle were found killing cats in parts of the city and selling the meat. The Arilova police on Monday night nabbed the gang near Jodugullapalem in the city.

The police also seized a dead cat and some equipment that was used in the killing the cats. Inspector of Arilova, YK Kishore Kumar said that they are investigating the case to establish who received the cat meat and how many hotels were serving the cat meat, he added.

The police have registered cases against the six persons under various sections of Animal cruelty. However, members of the Visakha Society for Protection and Care of Animals alleged that it was a regular practice of the gang and they need to be punished.
