With second hat-trick, Kuldeep spins his way to record books
By Newsmeter Network Published on 19 Dec 2019 3:50 AM GMTVisakhapatnam: Team India’s left-arm-spinner Kuldeep Yadav on Wednesday joined an elite list of bowlers as he became the first Indian to pick up more than one hat-trick in One-Day International cricket.
The left-arm spinner achieved the feat at Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA international cricket stadium in Vizag during the second ODI between host India and visitors West Indies.
Kuldeep got Shai Hope, Jason Holder and Alzarri Joseph in the last 3 balls of the 33rd over. He had picked up his first hat-trick against Australia at Eden Gardens in Kolkata in 2017.
With his match-winning performance, Kuldeep leapt to join Lasith Malinga of Sri Lanka, Wasim Akram of Pakistan, Chaminda Vaas of Sri Lanka, Saqlain Mushtaq of Pakistan and Trent Boult of New Zealand who have got more than one hat-tricks in ODI cricket. Malinga is the only bowler with three hat-tricks in the ODI format.
Kuldeep is the fourth Indian bowler along with Chetan Sharma, Kapil Dev and Mohammad Shami to take hat-tricks for India in ODIs.
In Wednesday's match, Mohammad Shami was close to taking a hat-trick, though he missed the chance.
India beat West Indies by 107 runs in the match and levelled the three-match series 1-1. The final and the decider of the series match will be played in Cuttak of Odisha on December 22.
