Hyderabad: On the occasion of Telangana Formation Day on 2 June, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao felicitated world boxing champion Nikhat Zareen and junior world cup shooting champion Esha Singh.
The two champions from Hyderabad recently won laurels in international events and brought fame to the state world over. The state government had announced Rs. 2 crore cash prize each to Nikhat Zareen for clinching the gold medal in the recently-held Women's World Boxing Championships in Turkey and Esha Singh who won the gold in the ISSF Junior World Cup Shooting event in Germany on Wednesday.
The two athletes and their families were hosted by KCR at Pragati Bhavan after the felicitation ceremony. During lunch, Nikhat Zareen told the CM about her passion for boxing since childhood. Her father, Jameel Ahmed, also spoke to the CM about Nikhat's journey. Nikhat said she was happy with the encouragement and financial assistance provided by the Telangana government and thanked the CM for providing assistance when necessary.
KCR said he would always support those interested in sports in the state.
He also congratulated Esha Singh for her hard work.
Earlier, KCR had announced prize money of Rs. 2 crores each to Nikhat and Esha. On the instructions of the CM, the government had issued orders on Wednesday. Apart from the cash award, KCR has also decided to allot residential plots to both the sportspersons in Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills.
On Wednesday, as announced by the Chief Minister, the Telangana government also issued orders to present Rs. 1 crore cash award to Kinnera artist Padma Shri Darshanam Mogulaiah. Considering his request, the government has taken a decision to allot a residential plot to him in the BN Reddy Nagar colony.
