Powerlifting academy to come up in Mangalagiri in Guntur

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday approved the setting up of a powerlifting academy in Mangalagiri in the Guntur district. The project was approved during a meeting with the 2021 Asian Powerlifting Championship winner Sheikh Sadiya Almas.

Sadiya Almas, who is an international powerlifting player from Mangalagiri of Guntur district, won three gold medals and one silver in the Asian Equipped Powerlifting and Bench Press Championship held in Istanbul, Turkey, in 2021.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister said the state government has been taking all measures to encourage sportspersons in the state. He also announced a financial incentive of Rs. 5 lakh to Sadiya Almas.

Tourism and sports minister Muttamsetti Srinivas, Mangalagiri MLA Alla Rama Krishna Reddy, special chief secretary Rajat Bhargav, Sadiya Almas's father Samdani, and representatives of the Rotary Club were present at the meeting.
