Styrene Tragedy in Vizag: Situation under control, says LG Polymers

Visakhapatnam: The management of LG Polymers based in Seoul, South Korea, assured the residents of Visakhapatnam that the gas leak that occured at its factory in the city earlier this month is now fully under control and most of the styrene monomer has been shipped back to South Korea to eliminate all risk factors.

A team of technical experts from Seoul that specialised in production, environment, and safety are currently investigating the cause of the incident and have proposed responsible rehabilitation as their priority. A senior member of the team said that they are closely working with related authorities to find the cause of the incident, prevent a recurrence, and support damage recovery in a prompt and expedient manner, said a release issued by the management on Thursday.

While identifying the extent of the damage, LG Polymers India has identified comprehensive measures to solve the situation quickly and responsibly, it said.

A special task force has been formed to support the bereaved victims and families they have been in touch with the victims at the hospitals and their homes. The food and medical services have been organised for returning residents. Various support activities such as supplying goods for medical, household, and sanitation needs will continue, the release added.

Announcing a comprehensive package, the release said that the company would continue to work with the government agencies to ensure all possible support for the bereaved families and the victims.

It commissioned Suraksha Hospital to take care of health check-ups and further treatment of the victims.

The company will soon set up specialised institutions to conduct a survey on health and environmental impacts and disclose the results transparently, the release said.
