Sub-inspector escapes life bid from robbers, chases them

Hyderabad: A sub-inspector working with the Dundigal police station in Cyberabad on the city outskirts, had a narrow escape, in an attempt to foil a robbery at a jewellery store. The robbers who noticed the official, identified as Shekar Reddy, tried to run him over with their vehicle late on Sunday night. Though Shekar Reddy along with his team chased the robbers, they abandoned the vehicle and fled. Police along with the sub-inspector seized the vehicle and equipment used for breaking shutters or locked doors in it.

Shekar Reddy was on night duty for the Petbasheerabad division of Cyberabad commissionerate on Sunday night. Around 2:15 am while passing Dulapally village, he noticed a Maruti Suzuki Eeco van parked outside a jewellery store. He also noticed a few men in the vehicle wearing monkey caps.

Sensing trouble, he stepped out of his vehicle and walked towards the van. Seeing him approach them, they drove straight at him intending to run over him.

The Sub-inspector then chased the vehicle for two kilometers and found the vehicle empty and crashed into a tree near Dulapally forest area as its occupants had escaped into the forest.

Police along with the Sub-inspector later found that the vehicle used by the suspects was stolen from Alwal. Hours before, the same gang also attempted to break open an ATM at Alwal.
