Sudheer Varma’s next is a Korean film remake

Hyderabad: Tollywood has never shied away from accepting the fact they take inspiration from other languages. Albeit, copying from regional cinema has been an age-old practice, remaking movies of foreign countries is rampant now. Following the footsteps of Nandini Reddy, who remade a Korean drama, Miss Granny, in Telugu called Oh! Baby, starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Sudheer Varma is going to come up with another Korean film remake. Looks like Telugu audiences are not just catching up with K-beauty but also opening up to Korean films.

The director of box office sensation Swamy Ra Raa, starring Nikhil Siddartha and Swathi Reddy, is bracing himself for his next directorial venture, which is said to be an action drama. This Korean action drama called Midnight Runner is said to be a big hit in South Korea. In fact, it has 7.1 rating on IMDB. Midnight Runner, directed by Jason Kim, has won a lot of accolades and awards.

Just like how the movie grabbed attention globally, it captured the heart of Sudheer Varma so much that he went ahead and bought its remake rights. There are going to be a few tweaks in the film as opposed to the Korean version. It is heard that in the original version, there were just two male protagonists, while the remake will have two female protagonists additionally.

In retrospect, we have had many Hollywood remakes like Sisindri (Baby’s day out), Pilla Zamindar (A millionaire’s first love) and many more.

Sudheer is on the lookout for a suitable cast. Looks like he doesn’t want to take a chance and is keen to take up the tried-and-tested route this time. His last outing, Ranarangam, royally tanked at the box office.

Sudheer is currently working on a gangster film starring Sharwanand. For the uninitiated, Sudheer was also the screenplay writer of Kannada remake Kirrak Party.
